NYFW is always that time of year, next to Christmas, that makes me most warm and fuzzy inside – but it’s a great show with a meaningful message and intense morals that make the icing that much sweeter.

Pyer Moss is a unique luxury Street wear brand founded by CFDA Fashion Fund winner Kerby Jean-Raymond. Last night the Designer held his NYFW SS20 show at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. The legendary theatre was newly renovated in the recent year and holds a profound history in the Black community with roots that run very deep in the culture. For his Runway presentation, he reserved the entire facility to put on a love letter to Black people. Truly an innovator of the culture his collection included an ode to those before him that didn’t receive the proper recognition deserved like Sean John and FUBU.

Jean-Raymond’s vision of Black empowerment was a true breathe of fresh air full of melanin, uplifting, and power.
Taking back the power we were born with and becoming free. The show, which was a service that we all needed, put on full display of Black People Magic with no type of regret. For my look I wanted something a little edgy and simple with a little bit of extra. I had made these wings for another look but wasn’t the type of dramatic that I was looking for so I used them for these jeans. The leather star detail down the leg was the main attraction until I got around to the angel wings, which is engraved with Swarovski crystals and wrapped with a lime green garden snake. I wanted to show the cut out of the architecture so I paired it with The Black Wolfs latest woven and it came out better than I thought. I’ve never felt more proud to be a Black man in America than last night and I have a completely new respect for not only myself, but Kerby and the Pyer Moss brand.
